Winter Solstice at Varuna, Katoomba

June 20 2016

The rain today is the gentlest of mercies—

making everything softer, even departure

even the mountains cry, blue quiet apertures,

taking in water; upward faces hoping for sky

I’m leaving towards an open door—from here

the light only lengthens, the words only deepen

like the rain on the mountains—slow—shifting

the bedrock of all that I am, and all that I know
